You could affirmatively seek(apply for) asylum with USCIS if you have been admitted and qualify to an affirmative asylum application filing.

The factor that differentiates an asylum relief from other forms of immigration reliefs such as refugee statuses is that you(the applicant), who is requesting an asylum protection(status) is already in the United States when filing for request in the form of an asylum protection.
